Can one look well rested and radiant with just some products besides having a good night’s sleep? Well, the new Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye, seems to claim so and I was intrigued by this idea when it was presented to me at their launch a few weeks back.
For those of you who are not too familiar with Kiehl’s, this is a brand that proudly displays the ingredients in their products, knowing that they contain the minimum preservative in all their formulation, just so they last the shelf life. Their formulations are derived from natural ingredients and always keeping in mind to formulate for sensitive skin. This means, the ingredients are gentle yet effective on most of our skins.
I had heard of Kiehl’s but have only stepped into their counter over at the Myer City store that night. The consultants were attentive and helpful, starting off by doing a skin test on me to see what skin type I was. Surprisingly, I was diagnosed as having Normal to Dry skin – that’s a first! Maybe my skin has started to control the amount of sebum it produces, or maybe it’s just a sign of me getting older. Either way, I was intrigued. The presentation then followed on sharing with us why this new creation would do wonders for the area under our eyes – overnight.
The Kiehl’s Midnight Eye Recovery, was created following the success of their Midnight Recovery Concentrate – yet another overnight skin repair sensation. Like the Concentrate, the Eye Recovery is also free of parabens, rich in naturally derived ingredients with lavender essential oil to help soothe inflamed or irritated skin by reducing blotchiness, evening primrose oil, which is rich in Omega-6 and Squalene, a signature Kiehl’s ingredient that is a botanical oil similar in molecular structure to the natural skin lipids. Meaning, it helps absorbs into the skin immediately. One of the major ingredients in this formulation is the Butcher’s Broom Extract, known to combat swelling of the skin due to water retention.
They all sounded pretty good and so yes, I did give the Recovery Eye a try. The cream has a nice feel to it, not too thick or greasy and all I needed was about one or two dots to apply underneath my eye area. I paired that with THE Midnight Recovery Concentrate, which by the way had a lovely, relaxing lavender scent. Did my eyes feel refreshed the next morning? Hmm…I can honestly say, slightly yes, although I’m wondering if it’s all just psychological. What I can truly say is, it did feel good and not greasy when I did apply it. Maybe I need a few more nights to feel more of a difference. Or maybe I should have taken a photo of me resulting from NOT using the Eye Recovery and one from using it. Yes, that would be a good idea!
Meanwhile, I’ve got a chance for YOU to try out the Midnight Eye Recovery for yourself! Provided you win it of course. There’s also a bonus in it for you – a Peter Alexander eye mask for you rest the night away – after all we all need our beauty sleep!

It’s not facial, but I was definitely trying to beautify…. however, white king does not lighten your hair!

The egg white facial…sure it tightened my skin, but it felt disgusting and I had to have a shower afterwards!

I use bicarbonate soda as an exfoliator. It is weird, but more importantly it’s cheap and works beautifully!

Just to clarify I learned that when working in beauty salons and many clients did it.

Combine beer, egg and coconut oil. Put it on your hair. Cover with a shower cap for an hour. Rinse out with water.
Does it work? Yes, it does. My hair looked amazing.
Does it smell? Yes, it does.
Should you use it before you visit the in-laws who disapprove of you? Only if you want them to think that you are an alcoholic.
I learned all of this by doing it.

A tanning suggestion from one of my aunts that, for obvious health and safety reasons, I have never attempted: rub olive oil over my skin before going out into the sun.

A home-made facial scrub using yoghurt, bran and sugar. Yes, it did scrub my skin, but can’t say I enjoyed the experience. Think I prefer my breakfast IN, not ON my face!

My friend told me this one – you know how you look more attractive by candlelight because your pupils get bigger? You can actually make your pupils dilate by tensing your stomach muscles in a certain way – you kind of flex it and for some reason viola! Bigger pupils.
It’s weird but it works, once you practice in the mirror a bit =) Good for innocent puppy eyes when you need them!
