A few posts ago, I wrote about choosing the right colour eyeshadows to suit you. Well, I’ve decided to be brave and start experimenting with different eyeshadows this week. So this week, I’ll be having a series of posts showcasing the colours I’ve used and how it turned out – plus what I’ve learned, in the hopes of showing you what can be done. Now, I’m by no means an eye make-up expert, having stuck to safe colours – neutrals most of my life, so this will be sort of an adventure for me. Feel free to laugh or better still, leave any suggestions that you might have, if you think I could use with a little improvement.
Today, I thought I’d be “daring” and try out some purple for my eyes. I tried on the Australis Cosmetics Perfect HD Eyeshadow in Totally Busted. This is Australis Cosmetics new lines of eyeshadows. There are four different colour palettes with five different colours in each palette. I got mine when I went for my ABBW weekend a few weeks ago.
The Totally Busted has:
- dark grey
- light grey
- pink
- deep purple
- light peach
The eyeshadow colours were quite pigmented – with what they call a pearlescent sheen to it. In my books, it means it’s pretty shimmery. Maybe I shouldn’t have started with this, but hey, for the sake of fun, why not. Ok, to be honest, I already started putting on, so there was no turning back, unless I wanted to be late for school drop off and work!
I didn’t use all of the colours in the palette, instead I started off with a base of a goldish bronze colour (all over my eyes) from another eyeshadow – my Mary Kay in Honey Spice – something I bought earlier this year. Then, used the pink on top of it on my lids. Next, I used the deep purple on my eye line, plus the crease of my eyes. Then I used the light grey to highlight my eyes by applying it on my brow bone and the inner corner of my eyes. The result:
To tone it down a little, I used a nude coloured lipstick – Face of Australia’s Mineral Lip Shine in First Kiss; also something I received during my ABBW getaway. This is their range of nude lipsticks, the great thing about the colour I chose is that it’s a nice nude that doesn’t make my lips look like death just kissed it, nor does it give my complexion that washed-out look.
In my opinion, I think the Paparazzi Perfect HD eyeshadow is better suited for night time wear due to the shimmery and highly pigmented nature of the colours. Nevertheless, I did have it on all day (the photos were taken after I came back from work), and didn’t mind it too much. It did take a little getting used to, each time I saw myself in the mirror when I went to the ladies though.
What do you think? Would you wear purple?

Hey Norlin,
Great job with the eyeshadow. Purple is my favourite colour, but I do suck at applying make up. I would love to learn how to get eyeshadow bit right one day.
I would wear it if I thought I could apply it ok!
