Having to drive over an hour to get to work PLUS being in a workplace where makeup is not an option means that you have to compromise. Or in my case, use a little trickery to look semi-decent while looking professional. Waking up at 5:30am each morning, and squeezing in breakfast, shower plus wearing the hijab – something I am slowly getting accustomed to – means less time for putting anything complicated on my face. “Makeup” is minimal, and almost non-existent but that doesn’t mean I haven’t got any on. It’s all a matter of enhancing what you’ve already got.
With every good makeup routine, you need to have a good base to start off with. I don’t wear any foundation because doing so would mean I’d need to apply contouring, blusher, you know, things that make my face look less like a two dimensional being. Instead, I’ve opted to wear my ever reliable BB Cream, my constant favourite being the one from Bioderma. Made for the Sensibio range, the Bioderma Sensibio AR BB Cream doesn’t just create a nice, even finish for your skin but also reduces redness. The only downside is the fact that it comes in only one shade – light. Thankfully the shade isn’t too bad for my skin tone, although it would be interesting to find out if it the shade also suits darker skin tones.
Next, I apply some concealer under my eye area to cover any dark circles. While this isn’t a truly heavy duty concealer, it does an adequate job for me. The ^Maybelline Instant Age Rewind is one that I use regularly. With its sponge applicator, the product dispenses quite evenly onto my skin. You would need to twist the cap to dispense the concealer but the application is smooth, and rather light but buildable.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and for me, having my eyebrows groomed is one of the most important things for a presentable face. Due to the lack of time, I usually groom my own eyebrows. Thanks to ^1000 Hour Eyelash & Brow Dye Kit, I now tint my eyebrows at home too. The process is pretty easy and I usually leave them on between 10 to 15 minutes before wiping the dye off. This cuts my morning routine down as all I would need is to fill in my eyebrows with ^Benefit’s Goof Proof Brow Pencil and apply some ^brow gel to help the hairs stay in place.
Next I curl my lashes before applying some mascara. Actually, I apply two different mascaras. One to help tightline my eyes and the other to curl them up of course! I’m currently using IT Cosmetics Tightline Full Lash Length Black Mascara. The brush is so thin and tiny that it helps to get up close to my inner lashes. Then I apply ^Benefit’s Roller Lash Mascara.
Finally, I tightline underneath my upper eye lid with Urban Decay’s 24/7 Waterline Eye Pencil. This helps to darken my lashes even more, giving it an illusion of fuller, darker lashes. It’s all smoke and mirrors people. Just smoke and mirrors.
That’s it really. No lipstick, blush, contouring or highlighting needed. That’s my complete “No Makeup” makeup look. It really does look as if I have nothing on without making me look sick. Maybe it’s just my own perception but hey, I haven’t scared off any students yet, so I guess it must be working 😉 .
Have you tried any of the products I’ve been using? Do you wear makeup to work? What’s your routine like?
