Winter Body & Skincare Routine

Winter Body & Skincare Routine

We’re in the heart of Winter now and I hope you’re all keeping warm and rugged up, avoiding the frequent use of that thing we call the heater.  While it’s function to keep us warm is essential during these times, I’m still of the camp that rugging up is better not only for the environment but for your skin too!

There are some of those who absolutely LOVE the colder weather, Mr. C included.  Me?  Well, I’m more of a Summer girl myself.  I cannot stand how the colder weather can make my skin feel so dry and not only that… It makes me want to stay in bed all day!

The upside to Winter?  Not having to shave my legs as often 😉 . Hahaha… Got to have some perks right?  But, some might think that just because it’s cold and we’re all covered it also means we can forgo certain skincare and bodycare routines.  Steps like exfoliating because you don’t need to apply self-tanners.  I for one beg to differ.  In fact, I think it’s even more essential to keep up our regular body and skincare routine and even step it up a little.

Winter Body & Skincare Routine

  • Exfoliating – Face

This is still an essential part of your body and skincare routine.  I normally exfoliate my face once ever two days, using a gentle scrub.  I’ve recently been using *Olive Illuminating Face Polish (rrp$22.95), alternating that with ^Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant (rrp$73.00).  These are very gentle scrubs each using natural ingredients like kaolin clay to refine the skin and olive seed powder to help with the exfoliation process in the Olive Illuminating Face Polish.  Dermalogica uses rice enzymes instead of microbeads, which are tiny plastic particles most commonly found in facial and body scrubs.

When you exfoliate your skin, you are getting rid of the dead skin cells to not only help rejuvenate the skin but allows it to absorb the goodness from any serums and moisturisers you apply afterwards.

  • Exfoliating – Body

The same goes with exfoliating your body.  I do this twice a week, once on a Sunday, and the second time, mid week.  Gentle is the word we’re going for here because let’s face it, we don’t have skin like a rhino or an elephant.  It’s not THAT tough!

When I’m looking for something a little bit more luxurious, I usually reach for Pevonia’s Silky Skin Body Scrub (rrp$77), which has jojoba beads, rosemary, sage and allantoin to help polish and remove any impurities on the skin’s surface.  *Olive Exfoliating Moisture Body Scrub (rrp$28.95) is a newbie that I’ve been trying out recently and boy, does this scrub make my skin feel soft, even while I’m scrubbing it onto my skin!  Just like the face polish, the scrub uses olive seed powder as an exfoliant, coupled with hazelnut oil to help moisturise and pistachio oil to nourish the skin.

  • Moisturise

Using all the help we (or at least I) could get, I’m depending heavily on super strong moisturisers, like body balms to help absorb and retain the moisture on my skin.  Frank Body’s Body Balm (rrp$24.95) is one of my favourites, for a product that helps restore and absorbs pretty quickly into the skin.  I’ve reviewed this product previously and still stand by my love for this body balm!  The other one I’ve been using is the one from Olive.  Yes I know, it’s a brand I’ve been trialling recently, hence the mention.  The *100% Natural All Purpose Balm (rrp$22.95), is just that – all purpose!  You can use it on your body, cuticles, lips, hands – see what I mean by all purpose??  Not bad huh?  Because it comes in a 50g jar, I don’t use it on my body.  Instead, I apply the balm on my elbows, knees and cuticles.

  • Skin Boosters

This is also a time to pamper our skin with ultimate goodness like serums and skin boosters.  My favourite has got to be ^Sukin’s Purely Ageless Botanical Hydration Booster (rrp$23.99).  I use this every Winter, adding it to my nightly skin routine, applying just one drop onto my skin before I apply my night cream.  Rose hip oils are also great as skin boosters, with brands like ^Sukin, ^Trilogy, ^People for Plants and so many more carrying their own concoction of rose hip oil, you’d be spoilt for choice!

So remember, just because it’s Winter, it doesn’t mean you hibernate and forget to care for your skin altogether, in fact, you should ramp up your body and skincare routine to prepare for Spring!
