Dresses to Build Your Capsule With – The LBD

Dresses to Build Your Capsule With – The LBD

In my attempt to live a little bit simply – when it comes to beauty, skincare and even my wardrobe (Gasp! Yes! You read it right everyone!!) I’ve decided to follow my own styling rules – to depend on my capsule wardrobe.  Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got one already – actually a few capsules for the different seasons and even for work (WHEN someone does employ me that is!), but I do get distracted by pretty things – that’s not to say capsules can’t have pretty things – and well, I tend to accumulate more than what I need.  But then again, who doesn’t right?  Or maybe it’s just me?  Tell me it’s NOT just me!

So, on this week’s Fashion Day post, I thought I’d put together a collection of dresses that you can pick and choose, depending on your style, personality and what you like really, for your different capsules.  Now, if you’re wondering what the heck I’m talking about, it’s the capsules I’ve indicated in my FREE Styling Basics ebook that you can download once you’ve signed up to my “Weekly Catch Ups”.  There on the right hand side for those of you reading this on your desktop or you can click this linkBasically, you’ll get to choose which chapters you’d like to download from my ebook once I’ve sent out the weekly newsletter each Monday.

I think it’s safe to say that everyone of you would have heard this drummed into you over, and over again – the LBD; the little black dress.  Well, it doesn’t have to be “little”, it’s just a simple BLACK dress.  It can be as basic as you can get, so that you can use it as a canvas for your whole outfit!

capsule LBD 1

^Mix Apparel Ponte Seamed Dress $29.00, ^Target Swing Dress $29.00, ^Target Ponte Sheath Dress $49.00, ^ASOS Curve Midi Dress $59.07, ^Metalicus Tank Dress $69.95

capsule lbd 2

^ASOS Curve Wrap Dress $73.83, ^Dorothy Perkins Lace Inset Skater Dress $89.95 ^The Iconic Lace Dress $99.95, ^Metalicus Ackerman Dress $149.95, ^Metalicus Cocoon Dress $149.95

You might notice that the dresses I’ve picked either have short sleeves or are sleeveless.  That’s so you can layer in the colder months over or under them.  I’d rather make it a bit more versatile than opting one with longer sleeves that you can only wear during the colder months.

In my ebook, I also share some summer capsule pieces that include a maxi and a sundress.  Stay tuned next week where I’ll share my picks of those – or else this would be too big a post to write!

Have you got your LBD sorted out?  Are you trying to streamline your wardrobe too?

  • There’s nothing like an awesome LBD! I love how flattering they can be and how you can wear the same ones over and over with different accessories! Very economical and often timeless!
I’ve been looking for a new one that I can dress up and down, but I am yet to find The One 🙂

    • Norlin says:

I have quite a number of “The Ones” actually – I know, not conducive to my recommendation of “you only need ONE” right? Your best bet would be to look for an absolute classic style that suits your body type/shape – I know not many styling bloggers emphasise the need to find something that suits your shape but, trust me, when you know what you need to flaut, THAT in itself IS actually following YOUR BODY SHAPE!!! I could go on and on but that’ll end up being a blogpost – actually, maybe I should write about that! 😉
