HoMedics Skin+ First Impressions & Giveaway

HoMedics Skin+ First Impressions & Giveaway

I’m no stranger to a majority of skincare and hair gadgets that are on the market right now.   In fact, I’ve got a few of those cleansing brushes and have even given a few away to friends because hello… I only have ONE face!  That doesn’t mean that I won’t try the next new thing on the block though.  Call me curious and it also saves YOU from wondering if that particular gadget is well worth your money or not.

HoMedics Skin+

HoMedics is no stranger to all kinds of gadgetry for your body, beauty and even clothes!  One of the gadgets that I’ve recently been trying out is the *^Skin+ (rrp$149.95).  Designed as a compact and portable system that not only cleanses your skin thoroughly thanks to the ultrasonic cleanser, but also to boost the absorption of your creams with their hot and cold skin rejuvenator.

How it works

  • The ultrasonic cleansing brush

Unlike the other cleansing brushes on the market, this particular one is actually a lot smaller.  It comes in a circular shape with two different vibration settings; low and high.   The other thing that makes this different is the fact that you can detach the silicone brush and attach a powder puff that also comes with the kit to apply your liquid foundation with!  There is no timer on the brush though, so you would need to do a rough estimate of possibly 30 seconds on each part of your face – forehead, nose, chin, cheeks and don’t forget your neck too!  Avoid your eye area at all costs.  The vibrations are gentle enough and all you need to do is to move the brush in a circular motion without pressing on your skin too hard.  Then simply rinse the cleanser off your face.

Skin Rejuvenator

The skin rejuvenator unit reminds me of the Clarisonic cleansing brush.  At least it looks like that without the brush head.  Instead, there is a metal plate that gives off either heat or cold vibrations to help the cream absorb better onto your skin.

There are three controls on this unit – hot, cold and the ultrasonic vibration.  Once you have cleanses and dried your skin, you apply the cream that you use daily and then turn on the button for the heat function.

  • You would need to hold the power button for about 3 seconds to activate the heating function.
  • Then press the power button again to activate the vibration.
  • Move the unit in a circular motion from inside to outside of your face and bottom to top.  You can also use this on the areas around your eyes.  The heat from the plate will help to open up your pores, improve circulation and help revitalise the skin.
  • Once you have done this, simply press the power button again to turn on the cooling mode.
  • Then press the power button again for the vibration.
  • Do as you did with the heating mode.  This will help to reduce puffiness around your eyes, shrink the pores and help brighten the skin texture.
  • Once you’ve completed the hot and cold massage, simply turn the unit off and wipe the metal plate with the cleaning cloth provided.

My first impressions

I liked how portable the ultrasonic cleansing brush was and easy to store, especially when you’re travelling or going away for the weekend.  Both units use a USB cable to recharge, which means, I don’t have to worry about replacing batteries or having to drag along any recharging stations.  It also comes with a velvet pouch where I can store both the cleanser and rejuvenating unit.

Just like with any other new gadgets, the skin rejuvenating unit was a little bit weird for me to use at first. I didn’t know how long I should have it on my face for, even if it has an auto-setting of 2.5 minutes for each mode. Would leaving it too long make it worse or better?  Did it matter if I didn’t have it on one setting for too long?  And the main thing was, did it really work?

The warm setting didn’t burn my face or anything, in fact it felt rather nice.  But to rotate it in circular motion was a bit cumbersome.  So instead, I simply moved it from inside to outside and bottom to top.  The cool setting was very nice indeed, especially when I used it around the areas underneath my eyes.  Sure helped to soothe the eye area.

I can’t say if the warm and cool effect did anything to help the absorption of the creams onto my skin or not, that still remains to be seen.  But I did like how compact the whole unit was, which meant taking up very little storage space and easily portable.

Thanks to the people at HoMedics, you have a chance to win the Skin+ unit worth $149.95.  All you have to do is tell me in the form below, what your major skin concern is.
