Fashion Day: Peplum Dress Gets a Re-wear

Fashion Day: Peplum Dress Gets a Re-wear

Yesterday was Miss 12’s grade 6 graduation ceremony.  The end of grade 6 for someone who was from Singapore marked a momentous occasion because it meant going to a different school, meeting new friends and unlike here, it was fully dependent on your test scores.  Yes people, we had to take big exams to determine which school we could get into.  Over here, it’s mainly because they’re leaving primary school and entering the next phase of their lives.  Daunting but exciting too I guess.

It was definitely a different experience for me when Miss 13 first had her graduation.  I didn’t realise they got all dressed up and had award ceremonies.  I didn’t have all those things when I graduated from primary school.  It was more, what grades and which schools (that came later). So second time round, I was sort of an old hat at this graduation gig.

Miss 12 bought her dress much earlier during the year.  She knew that she wanted a “skater” style dress (fit and flare to me) and so I went online in search for her “perfect” dress.  We hit the jackpot with Boohoo, who had this lovely peach skater dress with a cross back and it was on sale at a bargain price of less than $20!!   Miss 12 fell in love with it even more once it arrived.  The downside was having to find the right bra to go with it.  We finally found one and I realised I had to take in the straps at the back to make the dress fit even better.

I lent her my mint and peach necklace and she completed her outfit with a pair of pointed peach flats (so matchy matchy!).  It was fun doing her hair – soft curls or “waves” according to Miss 12, swept to the side with two mini Dutch braids.  Yes, she did wear makeup; just minimal – her eyebrows were filled in and defined and she did that herself, I added a teeny tiny bit of neutral coloured eyeshadow just to lift her brown eyes and some mascara.  She had on my BECCA beach tint on her lips for a soft, touch of colour.

Then came me – yes, of course I’m important! – I am kidding just in case you were wondering.  We knew it would be a very hot evening, so sleeveless was the go and a dress to keep cool in.  Miss 12 decided that I should wear this polka dot peplum dress – yes I have a new stylist 😉 – and I popped on this comfy pair of strappy heels from Clarks.

Miss 12 also received an award for Visual Arts (YEAY!!) and I couldn’t be more prouder because, yes, she is a crazy artist and I love her for it – and her mad organisational skills, which we all know did not come from Mr. C or me.

The night was memorable to say the least; well to me it was and to Miss 12, so I hope it was to all her schoolmates too.  Two more years, and it’ll be Master 10’s turn, and then Miss 13’s Year 12… much later thank you!

Have you had someone who just graduated from school or even uni recently?  What was it like?  Would love to hear your stories!
