The warmer weather is here again – finally! – and it’s now time to show some skin! I’m not talking about your body per se, although, there’s nothing wrong with that either. I’m talking about your feet. After having your feet all cooped up in those warm boots, or cover toed shoes, it’s time to let them breathe in those gorgeous sandals and strappy heels.
I have to admit that I don’t have pretty feet. In fact, I hate the way they look. Pretty icky in my opinion. The nails on my little toe nails at the ends look weird, I haven’t actually have the loveliest heels; thanks to some yucky dry skin and I also have callouses on my feet. But that apparently is also due to my flat feet, which would hopefully be “fixed” with the new orthotics I’ve just had made. Which is why I definitely need to get these feet prepped and ready to go for those opened toed shoes I’ve got waiting for me slip into yet again!
Much like the skin on your face, lotions, potions, serums and creams will not work unless you cleanse and exfoliate the skin on your feet. Here are a few ways that I cleanse and exfoliate mine:
First up, remove any old nail polish you might have on your toe nails. I love using ^nail polish remover pads as I only need one pad to remove nail polish from all ten toenails! I’m currently using the one from Manicare, which I bought from Priceline. This limited edition container designed by We Are Handsome has a lovely watermelon scent.
Once you have removed every single trace of nail polish, you can commence actually cleansing your feet. You can do this while you’re in the shower or usually I would find some free time and set that aside to do a mini feet prep. Fill up a small tub with water, depending on the weather, you can choose to have warm or cool. Add some of your favourite bath or shower gel into the water. Soak your feet in the tub of water and make sure you clean your feet too. Just use your hands to do this – nothing fancy here.
Next comes the exfoliation. I like to use Pod Skincare’s Liquid Pedicure, but really, you can use any sort of facial scrub for your feet too. All you need is a way to get rid of those dead skin cells. Make sure you get in between the toes and the top of your feet too! Often we only remember to exfoliate the soles of our feet.
Once done, dry your feet with a towel and then file the soles of your feet using this handy *^Scholl Velvet Smooth Express Pedi. It is battery operated and has a removable and replaceable roller head. Made out of synthetic diamond crystals, the roller helps to gently remove any dead skin cells.
Pop your feet back into the tub of water to wash off any yucky skin or residue and then dry them off again.
Once you have removed all the dead skin off your feet, it is time to rejuvenate the skin for a much softer finish. For this, you can either use specialised creams or gels for the feet, but because I haven’t done a full-on pedicure for a long time now, I would need to use the more potent stuff, like a serum. The *^Scholl Velvet Smooth Intense Serum has two main ingredients that can help restore your skin’s condition – hyaluronic acid for its ability to hold and retain water and Pentavitin, known to bind keratin in the skin to help keep the moisture balance. I apply this after exfoliating my feet and also at night, as a double duty treatment for my feet while I sleep. The cool thing about the serum is that you can apply it to your feet anytime to keep them from feeling dry! Perfect!
Unlike creams, the gel serum absorbs immediately and leaves no sticky feeling at all. It comes in a pump bottle and you only need a little for each foot. There is hardly any scent, making it great for those of you who hate any sort of scented products.
