While I do love my vibrant and fun fuschia shades and have an absolute obsession over some amazingly refreshing nude shades, I cannot go past the a juicy berry shade! Somehow I’m always drawn to this shade each time I shop for a lipstick.
I think a lovely berry shade can give your complexion a nice warmth. Maybe not on everyone but at least for me it does somehow warm it up a little.
So, in no order of preference, here are my favourite berry coloured lipsticks:
L-R: Arbonne’s Iris, NYX Plum, Kat Von D’s Foiled Love in F.T.W, Becca Ultimate Matte Lip in Antoinette & Mary Kay’s Berry Tart
Iris is part of their “bolds” series, it has more of a blue based tone to this deep plum shade. Infused with watermelon and apple extracts, the formula helps to hold in moisture. What I love about it is the scent – it has a lovely fruity scent – and a fabulous satin glossy finish. While the colour doesn’t last all day on the lips, it does give a lovely deep shade and doesn’t dry out my lips. In fact, even when you’ve “eaten” off the lipstick, there’s still a lovely stain left on my lips.
I bought this one a long while back and I have to admit that I think it was the packaging that got me. Sure it’s made out of plastic, but I loved the black lace pattern on the cap and the transparent bottom. This has a slightly magenta tinge to it. In fact, maybe it IS magenta? Regardless, I still lump it in the “wine” coloured lipstick family. It has a nice satin finish and a lovely berry bubblegum scent!
Kat Von D’s Foiled Love range is apparently no longer online, not surprising as it has been over 2 years since I bought this! Last I checked, this range has now been discontinued. This was when I first went to the U.S and Kat Von D was still pretty fresh and new, so every beauty blogger wanted to have a piece of her range; me included. This particular shade – F.T.W – has a mauve tinge to it and has a pretty rich colour payoff. In fact it looks as if it has some sort of foiled or shimmery finish to it. Definitely one to have on for that special occasion… or whenever you want to feel special!
If you’re after a matte lipstick that doesn’t dry out your lips, then your best bet would have to be BECCA’s Ultimate Matte Lipstick. The only downside to this is the fact that you’d be hard pressed to find it online or in-stores. Maybe if you’re lucky in Sydney’s Sephora? I’m not too sure as I haven’t been to the one there. I bought this about two years ago I think, when they first released their matte range. Sadly, BECCA doesn’t even have a counter in David Jones anymore and the online stores that do stock their range have a very limited amount left. The colour is an amazing shade of dark berry and it has a soft, sweet scent.
Finally, if you want a slightly berry shade with gloss, this would be the best choice. Marry Kay’s Nourishine Lip Gloss in Berry Tart has a soft plum or berry shade; depending on how you see it really. And, it has a juicy candy like scent!
Do you have any of these shades and brands? Are you a fan of berry coloured lipsticks too?
