Fashion Day: How To Find The Perfect Boyfriend Shorts

Fashion Day: How To Find The Perfect Boyfriend Shorts

Boyfriend jeans, boyfriend shorts, boyfriend shirt, jacket… lot’s of styles out there with boyfriend everything.  The thing is, I’ve never been much of a fan of boyfriend anything related to fashion because it just makes me look biggger than I really am.  According to Miss 11, “Only models or people who are really skinny look good in boyfriend whatever”!  Cue a sad face because while I love the look of them on others I’ve seen on, I hate it on myself.

So why this post on wearing boyfriend shorts?   Because I bought a pair very recently.  In my defense, it was an emergency purchase because I needed one desperately while I was at the Gold Coast recently.  Being someone who is from Melbourne, when the weather says sunny and is at 18 or 19 degrees, it means it’s shorts weather; something I didn’t think to pack when I went over there recently.  Once we got to the Gold Coast, we headed to the mall at Surfers Paradise just to have a look and hopefully find something I can wear that wouldn’t be too hot when we head to Warner Brothers Studio Movie World the next day.  City Surf had a sale on quite a number of their… actually I have no idea which season stock it was because it seems to be all Summer type stuff anyway.  But, they had this pair of shorts which used to be around $80 down to $40.  The problem was, they were boyfriend style shorts AND distressed!  If you read my post on distressed jeans you would know why that point was included.

How To Find The Perfect Boyfriend Shorts

I tried my regular size and a size up because knowing City Surf, they’d be designed for people who were definitely younger than I am.  I mean WAY younger than I am.  The bigger size was super loose, which I believe was what the style was supposed to be, but the smaller size (my “regular” size) fitted perfectly even if it didn’t end up looking like an actual boyfriend style shorts.

So what’s the trick to finding the perfect pair of boyfriend shorts?

  • Go one size down if you’re shopping at a store that caters to your demographic
  • Pick your “regular” size when you’re shopping at a store meant for the younger demographic
  • Distress is best as it gives the shorts a slightly grungier look and so would a lighter wash
  • Opt for a slimmer or straighter cut so it doesn’t make you look bulky

Here are some suggestions that might work:

  2. ^ASOS boyfriend shorts rrp$61.00
  3. ^Fox & Finch Boyfriend Shorts rrp$27.47

Do you think you’ll be putting your money on some boyfriend shorts for the warmer weather?  Or maybe you’ve already got a pair?  Would love to hear where you got yours from!
