You might have seen the snaps I shared on Instagram and Twitter of my 40th birthday celebration on Saturday, and seen it here on this post, but I bet you were wondering what I actually wore that night. At least I hope you do because that’s what this post will be about! 😉
Picking the right outfit was actually pretty difficult. I wanted to wear a dress, but it had to be something comfortable enough that I can enjoy my food without having to worry if my was bulging, and it had to be comfortable enough for me to be able to dance easily in too. At the same time, I wanted it to be a little special too, and… not too expensive.
I did my “research” online a few weeks before the big day and finally, that one fine day came across this particular dress from Rebecca Thompson. I’ve featured her brand previously and absolutely adore the designs that she has in her online store. They are a touch eclectic, with some glam pizzazz thrown in. The one thing that I was iffy about though was the price. While I know they are worth that, I’m just a student and really, need to keep to my budget, which was why I trawled the SALE items instead and came across this dress.
It had a simple cut, looked comfortable enough and I loved the hand beaded embellishments that decorated the front part of the dress. I think the other thing that got me excited was the fact that it had went down to $99 from $339! The other factor was that I could wear this dress in a number of different ways – layered with tights, boots and a jacket, just with a cardigan in autumn, with a denim jacket and a pair of brogues in spring or on its own with a pair of heels or heeled sandals in summer. In other words, it was the perfect dress!
I wore the dress with a pair of black tights, my long boots, biker style jacket and a cream cross body bag.
Since the dress already had embellishments on the front, I decided to forgo a necklace and wore a pair of drop style earrings instead.
For my hair, I decided to wear it in loose waves, although I think the waves kind of vanished towards the end of the night – something that happens to me so often no matter how much hair spray I use! I went with the smokey eye and thanks to the video below I managed to not look like I had panda eyes 😉 .
And I have to admit, the dress did keep me comfortable (we finished the food! 😉 ).
