Last week I shared my easy peasy zucchini soup recipe and as promised, here’s the easy matcha smoothie concoction I promised last week.

Why matcha?  Well, my household has this sudden love for anything and everything matcha flavoured since last year.  For those wondering what matcha powder is, it’s green tea.  If you think it sounds weird to consume food or drinks flavoured with green tea, think again.  I’ve eaten and even made matcha/green tea sponge cake, creme brulee, jelly… and the list goes on!  Plus we all know that green tea is full of antioxidants. It also helps to detoxify your body, is rich in fibre, chlorophyll and vitamins. Other benefits include calming the mind, therefore helping you concentrate and relax effectively.

Easy Matcha Smoothie

I’ve used the smoothie bottle to create this smoothie on the *George Foreman Mix & Go Pro.  I mentioned last week that the mixer has a few new functions compared to the original Mix & Go.  Not only does it come with a glass jug for larger quantities, but the Mix & Go Pro has five functions; the three speeds 1 through to 3, pulse and a smoothie function for your smoothies.  So what is the big deal about the smoothie function?  Well, just like the original, it mixes your smoothie but this one takes it a step further as it’s already pre-programmed, which means that there’s no guesswork needed as to when your smoothie is mixed well and ready.  Easy right?!  Just twist on the blending cap, place it on the machine and turn it on!

A quick, easy and healthy smoothie that the whole family will love, using the flavour of the moment - matcha (green tea). You can get green tea powder at most good Asian supermarkets.
Ingredients
  • 1 teaspoon matcha powder (green tea powder).
  • A little warm water to dissolve the matcha powder
  • 1 banana chopped up roughly - I just break the banana up really. No chopping needed.
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespooon greek or natural yoghurt
  • 300ml almond milk or the milk of your choice
Instructions
  1. Dissolve the matcha powder with a little warm water. Remember to use warm not hot water. Then stir to dissolve.
  2. Place the chopped banana, milk, honey, yoghurt and matcha mixture into the bottle and turn on the smoothie function for the ultimate smoothie.
  3. Quick, easy and delicious!!
Notes
You could use any type of milk or you like or substitute the yoghurt with vanilla ice cream. Want a little texture? Add some flax seeds. You could also add a little pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon to give it that lovely hint of winter warmth.
I normally have this smoothie after a workout or if I don’t have enough time to sit down for a proper breakfast.  Thing is, I can place the lid on the bottle and just go!
