Friday’s Favourites: Bioderma Hydrabio Serum, Uriage Stick Levres & YoungBlood Cosmetics Lipstick

I got a bit stumped on what to share with you on this week’s Friday’s Favourites because I could only think of one thing that I wanted to share.  Then I started thinking hard, looking back and realising, there are two others that I’ve sort of forgotten about.  One because I’ve been using it so often I totally forgot that, that was why it SHOULD be a favourite.  The other was because of the newness of the product – new in a sense that I’ve only started using it.  But still, they are considered favourites, just not the obvious ones because I wasn’t really thinking of favourites in a “traditional” sense.  OMG…I am rambling.  Please excuse this word vomit or brain fart as I’ve been having 8am starts and trying to wrap my head around actually getting my brain into gear that early in the morning.  Thank you uni – I love you but still, that’s just too early.

Anyway, back to this week’s Friday’s Favourites.  First up, it’s the Bioderma Hydrabio Serum.

*Bioderma Hydrabio Serum

As the name suggests, hydrabio comes from Bioderma’s hydrating range.  I first learned about this range at the recent education training event I attended in early February.  I could go on and on in this post about the scientific facts about this range but I think I’ll pass.  Basically, it’s a range that has been designed specifically to target dehydrated skin.  The products from the Hydrabio range has this patented Aquagenium®, which stimulates the skin’s cellular capacities and reactivates the skin’s hydration process. The stand-out product from this range for me has been their Hydrabio Serum.

While my skin is combination to oily, it has always been rather dehydrated.  I’ve been using the **People for Plants Cucumber and Aloe Hydration Gel and swear by it, but thought I should give this Hydrabio Serum a go.  Just to see if there were any differences between them.

First off, is of course the texture.  The Hydrabio Serum is like a gel.  It is a slightly clear gel, and doesn’t feel heavy at all on the skin.  In fact, once applied, you can feel how fresh your skin is; like a breath of fresh air – and I’m not exaggerating here.  It also has a very refreshing scent, in fact it reminded me of the **Uriage Aquaprecis Moisturising Refreshing Cream Gel.  The serum comes in a 40ml airless pump bottle – meaning you won’t get any bacteria or germs travelling into the serum, unlike those that come in jars.  One pump is all you need for your entire face.

The serum absorbs into the skin almost immediately, leaving no sticky feeling – that’s the difference that made me place this product on my favourites list this week.  While the People for Plants Hydration Gel did help hydrate my tired skin, it did however leave a somewhat sticky feeling before it fully absorbs.  Something I didn’t notice until I tried the Hydrabio Serum.  Plus it also has a slight scent that I didn’t particularly love.  Sometimes, it takes you to try something else before realising the things that might irk you.

Since using this serum nightly and sometimes even during the day, I have noticed a marked difference in the condition of my skin.  In fact, you would notice the difference immediately especially when used right after a day out in the sun.  While the benefits of the Hydrabio Serum is great, the price does leave my pocket a bit burned, with it selling for $42.99 for a 40ml bottle compared to People for Plants gel selling at $29.99 for a 50ml tube.  Having said that, if I were to choose which hydration gel or serum to go for, I would hands down pick the Bioderma Hydrabio Serum, purely because of the texture and scent.  It feels light, and has this lovely fresh scent and absorbs into my skin beautifully.  I think the People for Plants Hydration Gel will now act as a back-up plan, for when I run out of the Bioderma one.

The Bioderma Hydrabio Serum is perfect for all skin types, even for those with sensitive skin and great for adults and even teenagers.

*Uriage Stick Levres

Another favourite French skincare brand that I’ve always been harping about is Uriage and while I do love their Barierderm Barrier Lip Balm, for an everyday, quicker application, I prefer their Stick Levres.  I’ve tried looking for the links on sites that usually carry the Uriage range – Adore Beauty and Priceline – but, unfortunately haven’t found this at all.  Pity really because it’s that good.

While you might think it’s just another lip balm, well, this particular one has borage oil, which helps to restore damaged and weakened lips.  The perfect back-up for me when I go for my runs outside in the wind, sun or (sometimes) rain.  The difference between this Stick Levres and the Barierderm Barrier Lip Balm is first, the packaging.  The Stick Levres is in a stick form like the usual lip balms we have, while the Barierderm one is in a tube that you would need to dispense some of the balm in a gel form.  Plus the Barierderm is far more intense than the Stick Levres.  Both are just as good but for an everyday sort of thing, I’d go for the Stick Levres for ease of application.

**YoungBlood Cosmetics Lipstick

I’ve heard of YoungBlood Cosmetics but had never actually tried any of their products.  It wasn’t until I was at the recent Salon Melbourne event that I decided to give this brand a go.  And, it’s no surprise that I was attracted to their range of lipsticks and blush.  The colour that got my attention was Kranberry.  It was the perfect blue-based red, with a hint of dare I say, berry.

The Kranberry lipstick I was not meant to purchase…

The colour was the perfect match for my skin tone too.  Alas, they ran out of the shade when I went to make a purchase and with more than a $10 discount it would be crazy not to.  The lipstick usually retails for around $38 but it was on special for around $20ish.  I nearly threw my tantrum and cried when I found out they had run out!  Instead I picked the Cedar, which was a nice deep brownish pink shade; perfect for everyday wear.  I think it was meant to be.

The lipstick had a lovely, creamy texture and a nice almondy taste to it.  While the colour does eat off, with the Kranberry, I did have a nice stain at the end.  The Cedar being too much of a nude shade didn’t leave much at the end of the day.  Not that it mattered because it did smell, taste and feel good on my lips.  Will I be getting the Kranberry that I’m coveting so much?  Hell yeah!  I’ve got a discount voucher from Adore Beauty so yes, I’ll definitely be getting that into my lipstick collection.  You can’t have too many lipsticks! 😉

That’s it for this week’s Friday’s Favourites!  Have you tried any of the products I’ve mentioned above?  What did you think of them?  If you haven’t tried them, have you heard of these products?

Hi Norlin, Kranberry is perfect on you! The Cedar is lovely too. I haven’t tried Youngblood but have heard a lot of good things about them. Priceline 40% sale might be the time to buy the Bioderma. Have a great weekend,

Yes, I think I’ll be purchasing the Bioderma range when they have the 40% off sales at Priceline. Great way to stock up on my skincare essentials! I think I’m going to have to wait on that Kranberry from YoungBlood. Just checked the voucher and…the discount only applies to purchases over $80…:(
