While we’ve officially hit autumn, it doesn’t necessarily mean the weather is playing nice and actually acting like it should be autumn. Although, maybe Melbourne has somewhat entered into that phase – at least today it has – thanks to the chilly winds, yet sub sunny skies and spitting, intermittent rain. So what better way to get into the season (and beyond), and embrace the colder weather than by checking out what’s on-trend this autumn and winter.
With the colder months, it’s no surprise to see thicker, sturdier and more luscious fabrics making the scene. On second thoughts, did these ever go out of fashion when the temperature drops? While Shearling jackets, leather (or faux leather) and knits are back, the styles though differ this time round. They seem to be a lot softer and looser.

If you think we were hit with an influx of faux/vegan leather last year, you ain’t seen nothing yet! This year, it’s back, and I think now that we’re more accustomed to the know-hows of dressing in leather or faux leather, we’ll be seeing a lot more of this material on jackets, leggings, pants and even skirts. Once again though, the style of the pieces are softer, more feminine. With **biker jackets and **other style jackets sporting waterfall style lapel.
I touched on the sports luxe trend a few weeks ago, and it looks like this trend that started about two years ago isn’t going anywhere, which is a great thing! This time round though, we’re seeing simpler silhouettes, with minimal sportswear influence.
Pieces with **fringing and tassels, **floppy hats, **wide leg pants, **bell bottom pants, **flared jeans and even psychedelic prints that screams the 70s seem to be coming back too. While I’ll be staying far away from this trend, I think the only thing I would take on board would be the **paisley prints – even then, it has to depend on the item that the print is on.
When I say statement pieces I’m talking about accessories. Items like bags, earrings, necklaces and bracelets. These are pieces that will stand out on its own and best worn with a simple outfit, something like a monochrome ensemble, or something with a simple silhouette.
Ear cuffs were a huge thing last year and it looks like it’s here to stay. While you can certainly stand out in a pair of **ear cuffs, you can still rock the trend with something a little less obvious (even though that’ll defeat the purpose of it being a statement piece really) with an **ear crawler. These are slightly smaller versions of the cuffs.
While you (or I) might still be clinging onto those dainty necklaces, apparently, bold is beautiful when it comes to adorning our necklines. **Statement necklaces with **gorgeous crystals, **gems, **bibs, designed to be eye-catching will be all the rage. It’s also a great way to spice up that simple tee and jeans ensemble.
That’s the autumn/winter 2015 trends update. Which ones do you think you will be rocking this season? I’m loving the joggers in smarter fabrics and the softer leather/vegan leather silhouettes.
