Sports Luxe, a trend that has been around since I think Spring 2014. What exactly is Sports Luxe you say? Honestly, it was quite difficult for me to come up with a true definition of this trend, even though I can easily pick out items that can be termed as Sports Luxe. I’ve even trawled the Internet to find out the definition and have read quite a few amusing ones to boot. Here’s MY definition of Sports Luxe.
As the term suggests, it would include a sporty item of clothing and this is where it differs from your regular gym gear – or maybe not, depending on how you style it – and this is where the term luxe comes in. Luxe, as in luxurious, so really, it’s a luxuriously styled up version of sports wear. Sort of.
Fabrics include those with a shiny sheen, fab prints and of course bold colours; much like neon – if you dare. Anything with hoodies – not your typical hoodies but something more constructed – or mesh worn with slim skirts and heels, or even bomber jackets with bold prints or shiny fabrics seem to be the go to when it comes to the Sports Luxe.
I have struggled with incorporating the Sports Luxe trend with my everyday styling and only managing MY version of the Sports Luxe – maybe not really luxe but certainly the sporty bit. So far I’ve managed what Vanessa from Style and Shenanigans terms as “Not Quite Sportswear“, wearing slim cut trackie pants with a nice soft slim line t-shirt with my plimsolls. In other words, incorporate what’s traditionally worn for the gym outside of the gym without making it look like your worn out, comfy pair.
Thanks to a few brands that have somehow spruced up their sportswear, it is now possibly easier for us to wear their pieces with our everyday pieces and styling it up in the Sports Luxe trend.
Dress: Popbasic (similar style **here)
*Turtleneck Mesh Panel Sweat Top: **boohoo FIT
Shoes: Clarks (bought in the U.S)
Here I am trying out the trend, which would be perfect for when the weather gets slightly cooler. I’ve worn the boohoo FIT **Turtleneck mesh panel sweat top over the Popbasic black Forever dress and my Clarks strappy heels. A possible date night outfit idea indeed!
I’ve compiled three different looks to give you an idea of how you can get in on the trend.
**Kelly 3/4 Sleeve Snakeskin Print Hooded Crop rrp$16.00 – boohoo FIT
**Black Midi Skirt rrp$89.00 – Bohemian Traders
**Heels rrp$69.95 – Style Tread
**Satchel rrp$43.00 – ASOS
**Ellie oversized cropped hoodie rrp$24.00 – boohoo FIT
**Sally slouch pants rrp$129.00 – Bohemian Traders
**Black Croc flats rrp$59.95 – Styletread
**Mock Croc clutch rrp$29.00 – ASOS
**Splatter Print Sports Dress now $24.00 – boohoo FIT
**Pointed Heels rrp$62.00 – ASOS
**Embellished clutch rrp$154.00 – ASOS
As you can see, it’s basically mixing sporty pieces with your more feminine pieces – that’s MY interpretation anyway. You can opt for visors, shiny, sparkly vamped up high tops and all, but I think I’ll give those a miss for now. Have you jumped in on the Sports Luxe bandwagon?
