Tattoos can be lovely works of art, especially when the right artist (yes I call them artists because they are!) inks the design on your skin beautifully. I’ve seen some amazingly beautiful ones, and I’ve seen some duds. While I would love nothing more than to have at least one on my skin, the reality of it is that I hate anything permanent on my body. Except for piercings. Actually, even those aren’t that permanent really. Anyway, I knew that I couldn’t stand to have anything permanently etched when I tried on some henna tattoo about two years ago. That wasn’t even permanent! I was in Singapore and thought, why not give it a go, see how it feels to have something inked – albeit the fact that it’s only temporary. I had a rather intricate design on the top of my hand. It was gorgeous and oh…so…exotic! But, come day 3, I couldn’t wait for the damn thing to fade! Seriously, I kept on washing it off, in the hopes that the design would fade quicker. I just wanted my own skin back! So there goes that idea of having ANYTHING permanently inked onto my skin.
Luckily for me and those of us who would prefer something less permanent, there are such things as fake tattoos. While they are lovely, I really rather not because, I don’t know, I guess it makes me feel like I’m just too old for such things? That’s just me though. And then there’s this thing known as “skin” jewellery. Yep, you read it right.
Batucada, a French designed range of jewellery prides itself in being eco-friendly. Made from materials that are lead, oil and phthalate free, the range is also 100% recyclable. Even their packaging is made of recycled and recyclable paper! The jewellery looks a little like soft rubber and is designed to sit on your skin so that it looks just like it’s supposed to be part of your skin – like a tattoo.

With a gorgeous range of intricate designs, you’ll be hard pressed to find a favourite – much like I did! Another plus point is the fact that you can actually join the different pieces together to create a whole new design and function. For instance, two necklaces joined together could create a nice, intricate belt.

The Batucada range also isn’t limited for that more formal look, in fact, you can jazz up a casual outfit simply by adding one of their pieces. Shift the piece up to suit a different neckline.
