For those of you who read my blog regularly…no…you’re not in a time warp. It’s is Saturday and yes, I’m posting my regular Friday post today instead. Sorry for the mix up but I’ve been terribly busy this week, with an event midweek, an event on Friday morning, plus uni on Thursday and all that jazz. But you know what they say, “better late than never” ;).
On this week’s Love, Like and Loathe, I’ve got a film I absolutely LOVED, a song that’s been playing on repeat on my Spotify account and a mascara that claims to make my lashes go from ‘flat to fab’…but doesn’t.
If you’ve read Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl, then I highly recommend watching the film featuring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. For those who have not read the book, I’ll only give you a brief account of what it’s all about without giving away too much. The film centres around the disappearance of Amy Dunne, a children’s book writer. We see the usual rigmarole of what usually goes on in a suspected murder. Through a few ‘clues’, the husband Nick, becomes the main suspect. In fact I started to hate him too. But the story doesn’t end there. It goes much deeper than that. We see deception in the most unbelievable way possible. That’s all I’m going to tell you.
Thoroughly gripping suspense and even Mr. C was intrigued despite it being about 2 hours long. Now that I know what happens, I am still keen to read the book. Just to see the structure of how it’s written. In fact I’ve heard that the ending in the book is slightly different. I’ve had mixed reviews about the book and some say they hated both the characters after reading the book. I suspect that was the author’s intention and if it was, then she definitely is a great writer. Now I’ve just got to find time to read the book!
The song that’s been playing on repeat this week is Mary Lambert’s Secret. It’s a catchy song with a great message – empowering and all that you know.
I seldom or rather almost always never include a product I loathe on my loathe list but this one is the exception. I bought this particular mascara on my trip to the U.S last year. That was when I got to get my hands on some brands that are not in Australia or I’ve never heard of. This one was a ‘drug store’ purchase. I think. Or quite possibly when I went crazy having found the first Target store I came across while I was there. Let me just say that their cosmetic aisle in Target was like…twice the size we’ve got here. As in so many brands…too little time and money. I was like a kid in a candy store.
When it comes to mascaras, I usually go for those that helps to add volume to my sad lashes. So, when I saw this one by Hard Candy – Flat to Fab and I think it was really cheap too, under $10? I knew I had to try it. Ok, so I was also attracted to the large purple cardboard tube it came in. Yes I am a sucker for packaging. Alas I had to throw the box out to fit in the other
crap goodies I bought over there into my suitcase.
It wasn’t until a few days ago that I decided to try this mascara. Talk about anti-climax man! This one definitely did not live up to it’s name.
See the brush? Sorry but my lashes could not fit properly on it to even brush on the mascara. Yes I have rather typical short Asian lashes. And to make matters worse, I ended up getting the darn mascara onto my lids AND the bottom part of my eye area…what the? Total waste!
Luckily for Miss 12 though, this would fit her perfectly as unlike her mama, she has longer and thicker lashes. Life is so unfair. I’ve already cleansed the brush before putting it back into the tube (I wiped it off with a cleansing wipe) so that she won’t get any contamination. So really there’s nothing wrong with the mascara per se, just that it didn’t suit my type of lashes.
That’s it for this week’s Live, Like and Loathe. Have you watched or read Gone Girl? What did you think of them? What about Mary Lambert’s Secrets? Will you be adding this to your playlist? And which product have you been so excited to try only to have it be a major disappointment?
P.S: I won a double pass to watch Gone Girl thanks to Nuffnang.
