March 22, 2014
It’s been a while since I last shared a Saturday Shopping post and this week I thought I would share what’s new in beauty and fashion.
We’re just coming into Autumn but the colour I usually associate with the colder, darker weather seem to be steering away from the usual dark shades. Instead, I’ve been presented with bold, fun colours thanks to brands like ELES Cosmetics and Face of Australia, with their new nail polish collection.
ELES Brighton Collection rrp$15.00 each
*ELES Cosmetics Brighton collection features 12 pretty pastels, reflecting the beautifully colourful seaside huts that line Brighton beach in the U.K. The nail polish not only feature gorgeous eye popping shades, but are easy to apply thanks to the brush, which has been designed a little bit wider than the usual brushes you would find in regular nail polish. It also fans out beautifully to minimise your application time and effort. The formulation is also 5 free meaning, it’s free from DBP, Toulene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor. What I also found impressive about the nail polish collection is the fact that it dries pretty quickly. Great for those who haven’t got much time or patience for that matter. One thing to note however that while the colours are pretty pigmented, a few colours like the lighter ones do take an extra coat (about 3 coats) to give you that bolder finish.
Face of Australia Screen Siren Collection rrp$4.95
Inspired by the classic screen siren, Marilyn Monroe, Face of Australia has released its latest limited edition nail colours aptly named – *Screen Siren. With 7 colours and 1 matte top coat in the collection, the range includes bold colours like aqua (Isn’t It Delicious), Orange (Some Like It Hot) and a purplish pink shade (Diamond Are A Girls Best Friend) as well as 4 different nudes that will suit most skin tones. Except for the matte top coat the 7 shades in this range has a high gloss finish, are chip resistant and are 3 free – free from Toulene, Formaldehyde and DBP. Also, back by popular demand, Face of Australia has brought back *Studio 54 (rrp$6.95), the glitter nail enamel in a gorgeous bronze/gold glitter flecks. I love wearing this on top of the Screen Siren nude as it gives your nails that nice touch of glitter. Very glamorous!
We’ve all heard about the benefits of drinking red wine for health and even for our skin but let’s face it, everything in moderation people! So it really is no surprise to find skincare and healthcare products jumping into the goodness of grapes.
Enbacci Vitis Vinefera range rrp$69.00 each for cleanser & essence
*Enbacci Skincare, launched late last year, is a family owned Australian skincare brand that specialises in using fruit stem cells and in this case the stem cells of grapes. Their range Vitis Vinifera is a 3-step system created to simplify skincare whilst still keeping your skin cleansed, refreshed and well protected against UV stress and photo-ageing. The Vitis Vinifera range has also been designed to suit all skin types. The 3-step system consist of the gel cleanser, which has a mild foaming effect, helping to remove dirt and excess oils. I’ve tried the cleanser for about a week now and have to admit that while it does foam up, like the Dermalogica special cleansing gel, it doesn’t cause my skin to tighten up. You do however, need to do a double cleanse when removing your eye makeup as I found that it doesn’t completely remove all traces of my mascara and eyeliner if I use it once to cleanse my face.
The second step is their rejuvenating essence, an alcohol free balancing and toning solution that has natural astringent to help remove impurities. The rejuvenating essence can also be used to refresh your skin on a hot day, or on those days when the air gets too dry for your skin. I’ve been using this after cleansing my skin in the morning and at night and have to say that it certainly does refresh my skin and leaves a nice refreshing scent too!
The final step is their rejuvenating essential creme, which really is their moisturising cream for day and night. It comes in a glass jar and from the testing I did on my skin at their recent launch event, it felt pretty light, making it great for oily skin. I have not tried this yet though, so it still remains to be seen if it’ll do well on my skin. The only gripe I have is the fact that it comes in a jar where I would need to dip my fingers in to apply on my face.
Reserve by Jeunesse rrp$83.95 for 30 packets
Hailed as the elixir of anti-ageing, the people at Jeunesse Global have created a product that helps to support your skin from within. Reserve contains Resveratrol, a compound found naturally in several plant species and in red wine. The plus point is the fact that there is no alcohol to counterbalance the positive effect of the Resveratrol. *Reserve also includes other ingredients like aloe vera, green tea, acai berry and pomegranate to help nourish and heal the skin from the inside out. It comes in 30ml gel packs which could be taken on its own or in smoothies. For a more effective result, you would need to take 1-2 gel packs a day and can I just say, while you might expect it to be sweet because of the grape compound, it actually is pretty bitter to taste. So really, best to be taken with a smoothie to kill the bitter after taste. Yes, I did sort of gag when I slurped it down my throat. I can’t say if it’s effective or not as I’ve only tried two gel packs and really you can’t tell much from just two packs 😉
If you don’t already know this, H&M has announced it’s opening in Melbourne next month – 5th April 2014 at Melbourne GPO. The H&M Australian website has already gone live, allowing you to see what you can expect and the prices you’re expected to pay. While the basics look affordable enough for us mere mortals (fine knit jumper for $19.95), I am curious to see what the actual quality like, once it launches. So put the date in your diaries everyone!
For lovers of basics, another brand coming to grace our Melbourne CBD area is Uniqlo. While the pop-up store is already up and running, their main store will open on the 16th April over at the Emporium on Lonsdale Street in Melbourne.
If you love British high street fashion, then here’s some fab news for online shoppers. **River Island is now available over at The Iconic! Launched yesterday with a fashion show, as part of Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival, the collection showcased an amazing range of prints, sports luxe as well as bold and pastel designs.
That’s it for this edition of What’s New. Have you tried any of the beauty and skincare products I’ve mentioned above? Are you looking forward to the launch of these international brands like I am?
