Fashion Day: The Classic Wrap Dress with The LBD

Fashion Day: The Classic Wrap Dress with The LBD

Diane von Furstenberg introduced the timeless classic, her wrap dress in the early 70’s and after 40 years, they have celebrated that with an exhibit in L.A over at the Wilshire May Company Building. Touted as a “standard in every woman’s closet”, the wrap dress is easy to wear, versatile enough for night or day and comfortable yet still sexy and alluring.

While I would LOVE to own a DVF wrap dress, I’m afraid my hip pocket won’t allow it. I mean it costs around about the $400 mark for a simple DVF jersey wrap dress and I’m sure while it’s worth it, not all of us can afford to splurge that much on a dress. This is where I come in and help you find an alternative which would not only help you look good, but doesn’t cost as much as a DVF dress.

The LBD Boutique

We all know that the Little Black Dress or LBD is a staple in every woman’s closet, and with that the LBD online boutique was borne. The idea was to create the PERFECT LBD for every woman of any age, body shape and for any occasion. There are quite a number of LBDs in their collection and my favourite is from their Classic styles. Starting from $179 for a dress, depending on the style, the classic style is the perfect way to invest in an LBD that will go with your style, personality and body shape. Remember, classics go a long way and it is versatile enough for you to wear for any occasion, which was why I picked the Ashley mock wrap dress. Why not an actual wrap dress? Well I loved the versatility where I can choose to wear it with our without the waist tie that it comes with. Made out of a blend of polyester and spandex jersey, the fabric is soft, light,  comfortable and sits so nicely on the body.

Ashley Mock Wrap Dress rrp$199

I wore it when we went out last Saturday for Miss 12’s birthday. It wasn’t a “fully dressed up to the nine’s” occasion seeing that we were going to D.O.C, a pizza joint (which I highly recommend by the way) for her birthday dinner. The weather was balmy, so it required a light jacket for when the temperature drops a little. I decided to wear the Ashley mock wrap dress with my coral strappy clog sandals I bought from Target previously and added my Esprit denim jacket to the mix. Accessories were kept to a minimum with a simple owl pendant on a long chain. A simple, comfortable yet still stylish smart casual look.

To show you how versatile this simple dress is, I’ve styled it up in two other different ways, giving you the option to wear it to work or even for that special night out.

For work:

Add a jacket, change up the accessories and shoes and you’re ready to go! Here I’ve worn a short, grey patterned jacket with a simple gold chain and black heels. Smart, classic and still stylish.

For a special night out:

Vamp it up by darkening your makeup, then add a blinged up necklace, clutch and a pair of sexy heels to complete your look.

See how a simple LBD can go from day to night or from casual to spectacular? With a few choice changes of jewellery, shoes and bag you can create the style you want in a few easy steps. Also, if you want to get your hands on the perfect LBD, then be sure to click on to their site before the end of January! There’s 20% off all their dresses storewide, simply by entering the code LBDNewYear20.
