Last Saturday marked the grand opening of Melbourne’s first Trade Secret store over in Fountain Gate. Yes, I know, a bit far for a lot of us, but I can understand why. They need a huge amount of space to house a lot of what’s in their ever changing collection.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Trade Secret, let me shed some light on this store. It has actually been in Australia for over 21 years, setting up shop first in Queensland (lucky Queenslanders!) and then in NSW and ACT. We were a bit late in getting one of their stores here. Why is it so special? Discounted items people! And they are NEW items, not second hand (not that there’s anything wrong with second hand clothing). With brands like Wish, Esprit, Ben Sherman, Diesel, Fiorelli, Just Add Sugar, just to name a few, all at heavily discounted prices with up to 60% off the recommended retail prices. There’s women’s wear, menswear, children’s wear, shoes, accessories, homewares, skincare and cosmetics too!
Just in case you’re wondering, no, they are not old stock either. They are new, up-to-date and on-trend items that are on the selling floor. Plus, the stock changes EVERYDAY. Why are they able to sell at such low prices you might ask? By cutting out the middle man and going directly to the brands, not advertising the brands they do have in store, and by having minimal staff. The items are displayed appropriately with the on-trend items at the front of the store. The other items are then displayed according to the type eg. pants, tops, and then according to sizes, making it much easier for you to find what’s available in YOUR size.
Trade Secret also has a special rack called the Gold Label where they showcase big name international designer labels like Miu Miu, Michael by Michael Kors, Prada but like going to an Op Shop, it’s really a case of luck to see what they’ve got.
So what did I snag for myself at Trade Secret?
These printed pants were a steal at only $29.95 from $65.00.
Great for summer, this skirt was only $15.00 from $49.95! This would also be great for those music festivals (if I had a chance to go to another one in 2014).
This jacket was on the Gold Label rack from Michael by Michael Kors. Retailing for $200, this went down to $89.95 and then down to $60! It would be silly not to get this right? I can wear this next autumn and winter and for my trip to New York!
I also bought two sports leggings at $29.95 and $24.95 each – which retails outside for almost double that price. I could have gone crazy and gotten more had I had enough shopping time, but alas, all good things must come to an end! There are some rumours that more stores will open up (I HOPE!), so in the meantime, be sure to head down and check out the new store in Fountain Gate.
