Mother’s Day Ideas – What Mum Wants

I’m sure you’ve seen that line around, “What Mum Wants” on every freaking store window. I know I have. And really…how DO they know what Mums want? I see slippers, pyjamas, pashminas, oh I could go on and on…but what do we mums really want? Despite the heavily commercialised celebration of a day just for mums, I’m not going to complain. I take what I can get when it comes to getting something for being a mum. Hell, I’ll cash in on it…ok, milk it for what it’s worth sounds much better. Instead of focusing on what “mum” wants, or what’s great for “mums”, I’m going to focus on what a WOMAN wants. Regardless of if you’re a mum or not. Fair? Seriously, why just limit it to mums because we’re all women who LOVE to be pampered and cared for on this special day (yes, you can call yourself a mum even if you’re not, especially if you’ve been helping out with a lot of babysitting!).

I know for a fact that we, women of the world would LOVE to be:

  • Pampered
  • Treated like queens (even if it’s just for a day)
  • Have some “ME” time

So here are some ideas:

  • Shopping, Styling & Nails

Uni Hill Factory Outlet

A whole day of (discount) shopping, beauty and pampering – I did this over at *Uni Hill Factory Outlets in Bundoora the other day and if you’re wondering what it is, it’s a HUGE and dare I say SUPER HUGE place filled with discounted stores like Barkins, Simone Perelle, Cotton On, Lorna Jane, Nike, Jeanswest offering up to 70% off retail price…I could go on and on and you know what’s the best part? The staff in the stores I went to were SUPER DUPER nice and friendly. No, they didn’t know I was doing a review of the place, so definitely worth going there and checking this place out. That’s not all, there are also salons to get yourself pampered in. I got a blow wave over at Madd-Ness Hair Design from Rebecca who was so friendly and kept me feeling comfortable and made me look amazing. And no, she didn’t know I was doing a review at first either. Talk about making me feel special! Then it was off to Star Nails to get my nails done – something I normally do myself. Yes, I felt pampered indeed. So you see, it’s not just a place to shop, and all you have to do is give your favourite lady a whole day off, book her in at the salon and nail place, then get her a few vouchers, or better still your credit card and let her loose at Uni Hill Factory Outlet. Trust me, she’ll be back happy, and hey, if she’s happy YOU’RE happy too! And if you’re a woman reading this, wanting this for yourself, TELL your man and/or your kids that THIS is what you want. No hinting, just TELL THEM!

Some extra details? Uni Hill Factory Outlet is open 7 days a week from 10am-6pm.

  • High Tea

Doesn’t have to be ON Mother’s Day itself, although that would be nice, but High Tea with girlfriends or your daughters or sons would be a fun thing to do. I’ve been to a few in Melbourne. The Aria Bar over at The Langham Hotel in Melbourne has a great array of High Tea options from the Chocolate Indulgence (you can eat yourself sick!), Tiffin Afternoon Tea for that traditional High Tea experience, and they even have a Gluten Free option too. Prices start at $49.00 per person.

Another place I’ve been to is The Tea Room over at NGV. I had some “girl time” with Miss 11 that one weekend and we chose the Afternoon Tea option, which had a selection of cakes, pastries, finger sandwiches and tea, coffee or hot chocolate for $35.00 per person. On hindsight, we should have just chosen a tray of sandwiches and maybe one or two sweets afterwards, but we had fun, sitting and chatting (ok she was chatting mostly) in that cosy atmosphere.

Sheraton On The Park

If you’re in Sydney, Sheraton on the Park has got a special Mother’s Day “Me-Time” special consisting of a massage and a delicious High Tea for $99. Ah…wishing I was in Sydney just for that!

For more ideas on where to have high teas, do check out The High Tea Society for their list of place and reviews.

  • Massages, Facials & Other “Experiences”

Ahhh…I can just imagine some soft hands massaging my tired neck right now…and back, and legs…oh I could go on and on! Anyway, most women LOVE massages (not all, MOST) so let them indulge in some quality “ME” time by checking them into some spa – Aurora Spa if you’re in Melbourne for a facial, a massage or get a special package for the whole shabang! Or even for a quick 30 minute facial, yes you can get one thanks to the special Guinot Hydraclean facial!

Still not sure what to get that special woman in your life? Or better still yourself? Red Balloon has some amazing experiences that she (or you) can indulge in and it suit any sort of woman! There’s something for those who love adventures, or one who loves some rest and relaxation or even those who are into gourmet everything.
