The Red Lipstick Dare That Got Some Attention

Last week, Fox in Flats held her Red Lipstick Dare again. This was the dare that started all dares and I was game to join in – again. It wasn’t a difficult dare to carry out to be honest. Red lipstick; for 7 days.

Some of you might cringe and think “Oh no, my skin tone doesn’t suit red lipstick”, or maybe some of you might say, “My lips are too thin for red lipstick”. Then there are some who might think, “Umm..it’s too hard to do a red lippy, too much to think about”.

Well, guess what? The red lipstick dare was so easy to do because, it meant I got to skip on having the right combination for my eyeshadow colours, leaving it plain and neutral in a shade that everyone can wear. In this case, I simply applied the lightest brown shade all over my eyelids.  Then I simply had to line my eye lids with a little eye liner – liquid or kohl and add some mascara. The focus was on the lips – That. Is. All. And let me tell you, it helps when you haven’t had enough sleep for that past few nights, because, with bold coloured lips, people tend to focus on that – your lips!

So, how do you pick the right shade for your skin tone? Yes, EVERY skin tone CAN wear red lipstick. Check out the tips I got from Poppy King a while back. The lady of red lipstick herself gave me some simple tips for you to pick the right red shade for your skin tone.

If you feel that your lips aren’t thick enough for a red lippy, well, there are two things you can do to rectify this “issue”.

  • Highlight your cupid’s bow. This is the area at the top of your lips. You know, the “dip”. Yeah, using a highlighter – preferably a cream based one, apply some there and blend onto your lips a little too.
  • Draw in your lips. Go slightly over…just slightly not too much. Just a little itsy bitsy bit over your lip line. Not all around, just either the top or bottom. Then you fill it in with the lip liner before filling in with your red lipstick. Easy right?
So now, I have to share why I got some attention, or more likely from whom. Surprisingly from my “dearest” husband Mr. C. No, not deliberately, by accident actually. You see, he was scrolling through his facebook feed and came upon this image of a “chick” (yes that’s what he said). It wasn’t until he scrolled back up that he realised it was…ME! Yeah, he actually said, “I was checking this chick out and then realised…Oh NO! It’s my wife!”. Hmm..don’t know if I should be flattered or insulted by that!

Anyway, if you missed the images I shared of the dare, here they are again, along with the different lipsticks I had on each day. Yes…I do have quite a lot of red lipsticks!

I love all these shades but my favourites have to be the Ilia and the Lush on you!

That comment your hubby made still cracks me up every time I think of it. Major Faux Pas!

That story makes me laugh every single time, your face when you told me was priceless! You suit red lips so much, what was the colour you had on at lunch but forgot to bring to reapply?!

It’s the Lush Lip Tint in A Million Kisses. But I actually drew in Estee Lauder’s lipliner in wine beforehand then applied the Lush lip tint over it. That’s why it looks different from the time I had it on the 5th day of the dare.

Thanks Jacqui. Had to do a few “stealth” shots while at work. Didn’t want people to think I was nuts taking selfies!

    Sarah @ a beautiful story

LOL at your hubby! :) I have a few of the Lush Lip Tints but find their staying power to be poor – how’d you keep yours looking fresh?! (The reddish shade of theirs that I have is “it started with a kiss”; if I wear it I have to reapply constantly :-( )

Well, that was taken before I had food, so like you, I had to re-apply the Lush lip tint. Their staying power isn’t great, I must admit. Although I have stumbled across a lip sealer by Natural Compatibles that actually seals the lip colour in. Tried it once and wasn’t too bad!
