Q & A: Wedding Guest Attire

On this week’s Q & A section, I’m featuring a question put forward by Allison from Utterly Organised that she asked on the Baubles, Bubbles & Bags Facebook Page last weekend.

Q:  I’d love to get your help or advice for a dress to wear in October in Melbourne to a wedding. I had a baby in December, so I don’t want anything fitted or short and everything I spot seems to be just this. I would love any suggestions you have.

I can relate to what Allison is asking having had 3 kids, and seeing that it has only been 8 months since she’s had her baby, we tend to be a little bit more self conscious about our bodies. So, the points I had to bear in mind were:

  • Something comfortable
  • Suitable for a semi-formal event (it’s a church wedding and another event which is a wedding reception)
  • Something that isn’t too fitting
  • Something that isn’t too short
  • Not to upstage the bride
  • And in true “Norlin” style, something versatile that you can wear for other events.

Here was what I came up with:

Wedding Guest

Jacket: Dotti, Dress: Ojay, Clutch: Colette Hayman, Bangle: Fashion Addict Australia, Necklace: Colette Hayman, Earrings: Fashion Addict Australia, Shoes: Fashionphile

I love the prints on this dress, as it makes this a really unique piece. It also has a nice cut with a gathered A-Line style skirt and a fitted top. Teaming this with a cream coloured tuxedo style jacket will give it a little bit more structure whilst still giving it a soft and light flow. Add some gold accessories, nude heels and a clutch and you’re ready to go for either a church wedding or a wedding reception.

Wedding Guest
Necklace: Diva, Dress: Witchery, Bangle: Diva, Shoes:The Iconic, Clutch: The Iconic
Don’t be afraid to wear colours this season and with a classic cut like this green dress, you’ll not only feel comfortable but look great too! Keep it simple with a pair of nude coloured strappy heels and woven cream clutch, and give a burst of colour to the whole outfit by adding a colourful necklace and a simple yet textural gold bangle.
