Q & A: Styling with Joggers/Runners

A friend of mine, fellow blogger Katrina from The Organised Housewife will be bound for New York in a few days time for BlogHer ’12 and has come up with a styling predicament. She posed a question on her personal facebook page asking:

Do you think it’s too daggy to walk around New York in my joggers?

I know we call them differently in different states and even countries. For those who are not familiar with the term “joggers” they are also known as “trainers”, “runners” and “sneakers”.

So, how does one look uber chic while still donning the practical pair of shoes, especially when you’re out and about to shop? I’ve scoured the online world to find some kind of inspiration and thankfully, sport chic is in! Yep they are a pretty trendy thing at the moment. Just depends on how you style them. Here’s a few ways that I find would be pretty easy to emulate.

Styling with joggers/trainers

L-R: Rebecca Top from Virtu, Breanna Pants from Virtu, Double Layer Sleeveless Top from ASOS, Havanna Maxi Dress from Virtu

You can still go for that sporty look with a pair of chic gym pants like these Brenna Pants from Virtu. I love the rouching at the hemline. I think it gives an otherwise boring pair of pants some texture. New York is quite warm at the moment ( I think?) so, team it with a simple t-shirt top in a bright colour or even a loose fitting fishtail style singlet.

Accessories to match with sporting wear

Add some accessories – a necklace, some bracelets, a light scarf and you’re ready to go! Maxi skirts and maxi dresses are also very versatile and comfortable. Again, pair a maxi skirt with a simple bold coloured top and accessorise accordingly or wear a loose fitting t-shirt top over a sleeveless maxi dress.

Hope that helps narrow it down a little Katrina.

  • Thank you so much Norlin, I just want to make sure that the 2 days I have free for sightseeing and shopping that i can fit it all in and having the right shoes will be a great help. I love your tips, the Rebecca Top looks gorgeous, I’m loving this colour after seeing it on Lisa recently!
