Packing Light: The Everyday Girl’s Guide to Packing for a Weekend Away Part I
April 28, 2012
Next week is the start of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week over in Sydney. While I wished I could be there from the start – 30th April until the end – 4th April, unfortunately, my real life forbids me to, so I’ll be there from Thursday afternoon instead. But, as they say, better than nothing. With wanting to save myself from paying for check-in luggage, how can this clothes horse pack wisely for her weekend away? Here is the first part of my guide to packing light:
Face, Body & Hair
Every girl needs to have their most basic items to keep herself looking spiffy without lugging their whole bathroom cabinet. What I will be packing in my toiletries case are:
Cleanser & Night Repair – The jojoba oil from The Jojoba Company is a perfect all-in-one system that cleanses any traces of make-up. It is also great for moisturising my face, so it will definitely double up as something I would use as my night repair.
Face Wipes – TheseDerma Intensive+ Fragrance Free Wipesare super handy for when I need to get all my make-up off in a hurry and cleaning off any last traces of make-up and debris. The best thing is I can rinse the wipe with warm water and wipe away any remaining residue.
Eye Cream – A must-have item for me to soothe those tired eyes. Instead of bringing my night and day eye-cream, I’ll be bringing just ONE that will work for both night and day! The Uriage Relaxing Eye Gel is a great product to use for those nasty eye bags and dark eye circles. Always a great thing to have when you know you’ll be having late nights and early mornings!
Day Cream – The Jojoba Company‘s new Moisturising Protective Day Cream comes with SPF15, so this would be perfect underneath my BB Cream. It comes in a handy 60ml tube, which would be a perfect fit for my cosmetics bag.
Make-up – I’ve raved about the Benefit Cosmetic’s Brows A-Go-Go before and I’ll rave about it again! A compact with all I need for my brows to look super nice and well groomed, with the wax, powder, highlighter and even brush in one pack. Then there’s the NP Set Glam Set, which comes in a nude palette that I can darken for night or use lighter for day. The set includes blusher and lipgloss so, that’s another bonus! The only things I would need to include are brushes for my eye shadows and blusher. I would also be including a liquid eyeliner, my favourite and foolproof one is the K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner I got fromsasa.com. It is waterproof, easy to handle and gives a good dark colour. The Benefit They’re Real Mascara will take precedence in my cosmetics bag as it gives great length and volume. Finally, some lipsticks, in this case, two colours, a nude shade for when I go for that dark smokey eye look and a red lipstick for that classic bold red lips and simple winged eye liner look.
Hair & Body – This is where all those little bottles of samples come in handy. In fact, in supermarkets you can also find handy travel sized bottles of shower gel, shampoos and conditioner and body cream. As I’ll only be there for 4 days, I’m only planning to wash my hair once and be bringing my dry shampoo instead. A good, quick pick me up for that 3rd day when my hair gets all limp and oily.
It is also good to plan what styles you will be wearing your hair on those days. My plan is to have it all washed and styled on the first day I leave, that way on the second day, I can either use my slimline ceramic straightener to go for that straight, sleek style and on the third day, create some curls with the straightener – 2 in 1! By the final day, I can simply tie my hair up in a bun or ponytail.
Perfume – Once again, sample bottles. Tiny, but highly effective and you can even pop it into your purse for when you’re on the go! Or, Lush have got these amazing range of “solid perfumes”. They look like those roll on deodorants, only thing is, they are perfumes/scents in solid form, meaning no spillage in the cosmetics bag or your handbag!
Now that I’ve got my face, body and hair covered, stay tuned for Part II when I share with you what to pack when it comes to clothes.
