This week, an avid reader and dear friend of mine, Alyce from Blossom Heartasked me a question with regards to styling with belts. Here’s her question:
Q: Being post-babies, I’m still learning how to dress my new shape with it’s extra curves! I like wearing loose and flowy tops and tunics to camouflage the Girls and the extra padding on my hips, and then wearing a belt to highlight my waist and give me a nicer shape. But I have been wearing these 2 belts for a couple of years now, and am a bit stuck for inspiration as to what else I should have in my belt collection! More black? A grey? A plain brown? I need versatile and style, on a budget. What would you recommend?
A: Alyce, I do love the two belts that you’ve already got – the first one is great for casual wear and the carvings on the belt add some lovely texture and colours to the belt. The black one is such a versatile piece that you can wear with a skirt, pants and really, even jeans! While black is always a safe option, I would say, try belts in red and grey. Brown is another safe colour but can be a bit boring.
There are many shades of grey and if you like, choose a shade that is in between grey and brown – sort of like a washed out grey? That way you can wear it with your casual as well as slightly more dressier outfits. The type of belts and how you wear a belt can also change the look of your outfit. I’ve included some examples of belts and the colours I’ve mentioned. I’ve tried to find a slightly more cherry red belt but can’t seem to find an image of it.
