We are almost in the middle of February, which means, it’s less than a month away to one of Melbourne’s biggest fashion events – L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. This year’s program promises to be packed with new and yet interesting concepts, beginning with the big launch – LMFF Opening Event. This time, Graeme Lewsky, the Chief Executive Officer of LMFF shared with us that the Opening Event would be an even more exciting event with the whole central pier being closed off just for the event. It will be transformed into a “Fashion Infused bloc party” with food stalls, outdoor bars, and edgy musical talents like Canyons, Van She Tech, DJ Grant Smilie and many more; livening up the event. There will of course be the opening runway by David Jones featuring designers like Collette Dinnigan, Alex Perry, camilla and marc. Alannah Hill, and Josh Goot. This is sure to be an exciting event not to be missed, so why not join in on the action by getting your tickets now.
Other events in the LMFF program include the L’Oreal Paris Runways with seven nights of fashion filled events presented by the different magazines – Grazia, InStyle, Frankie Magazine, Vogue.com.au, Cosmopolitan, Madison and Harper’s Bazaar. If you love Alex Perry’s designs, then don’t miss out on his spectacular showcase featuring his 2012/13 Spring/Summer collection.
One of the events that I’m really looking forward to is the Von Foillies by Dita Von Teese for Target Australia. Not only will you get to see Dita’s new lingerie collection – if you haven’t already seen and touched it at Target – but Dita Von Teese herself will be walking down the runway in her collection!
If you are into edgy independent designers, then head on to the LMFF Independent Runway, showcasing labels like Extinct, Francis Leon, Garth Cook, Jolet, Ksubi, Livia Arena, Lui Hon, One Fell Swoop, Something Else and Song For The Mute.
Another one of my favourites in the LMFF program is the Cultural Program and the best news is, they are mostly free! So if you want to get a taste of fashion without spending the big bucks, this is another way to get in on this amazing festival. You can discover Melbourne’s hidden fashion by walking through the city and exploring the LMFF “Windows by Design”. This is where the city’s retail windows will be transformed into a gallery, thanks to designers. You can check out other Cultural Program here.
The LMFF National Graduate Showcase is one of THE must-see events in my personal opinion. I love looking at the designs these fresh graduates come up with. They are usually vibrant, artistic and most of all free of any commercial influence, letting their creativity go free.
This year, LMFF has introduced the Famous for Fashion Series, whereby we’ll see a “Battle of the Stylists” type of thing, styling the clothes from the stores in that area. There’s the High Street Edition featuring Glenferrie Road and High Street retailers and then there’s the Chapel Street edition.
For those who are serious about the fashion industry, remember to attend one if not all of the LMFF Business Seminar. Then there’s also the Fashion Industry Forums, which will have three events – What’s the Industry’s Verdict, The New Consumer and Fashion Financing.
Tickets are selling fast, so check out the LMFF site for more details and get in on the act now.
