A Closer Shave – Schick Hydro

My husband dreads it each time I ask him to try something out for me. To me, I think he’s pretty lucky to get to try the products. So, after hassling him; let’s call him…Mr. C; he agreed to try out the new Schick Hydro Razor and shaving gel. Mr. C normally uses an electric shaver, now, bear in mind, Mr. C is not very hairy at all. If he tries to grow a goatee, or some sort of moustache or beard on his face, I think it would take him DECADES to grow a decent one. That is fine by me as no, I don’t like facial hair very much. The pros of having an electric shaver is of course – time. It’s quick and easy, but the down side to that is how close a shave you can get with an electric shaver. Mr. C thought that it would have been more effective if I had gotten someone a lot hairier to trial the Schick Hydro, but I dare to say otherwise. Why? Well, seeing that it’s been touted to deliver a much better shave than the Gillette Mach 3, I thought, the lesser the hair on the face the better I can judge how close a shave it will give. And yes, I was standing there watching him shave – something I have never bothered to do.

First, the shaving gel. Mr. C got to try out the gel for sensitive skin, it also comes in a “moisturising” gel. Mr. C was actually impressed that the gel then turned into foam, making it a lot less messier than having to squirt foam straight out of a can. I’m not complaining – this also meant less cleaning up in the bathroom for me! There was no strong scent, which was a bonus as Mr. C hates anything that has any sort of scent that he has to put on his face. Mr. C then used the Schick Hydro 3, which has 3 blades. Schick Hydro also comes with 5 blades, that also has a flip trimmer, for those hard to reach places (under the nose?). The Schick Hydro 3 and 5 both have built in skin guards that acts to smooth the skin and therefore reducing irritation.  The hydrating (hence the name Hydro) gel reservoirs is laced with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E, providing moisture as you shave. Mr. C’s verdict?

Pro:

  • Smooth, with a cooling feeling as he shaves
  • Much closer shave than using an electric shaver
  • No nicks or cuts

Con:

  • Takes longer than an electric shaver

On that note, I think he’ll be doing his thorough shaving during the weekends and his quick and easy ones with the electric shaver during the week. A win-win both ways in my opinion.
